This is the second blood drive the district is sponsoring in honor of Kindergarten teacher Kristen Meister, who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in August 2018. That fall, Meister received the good news that her CT scans showed minimal traces of the cancer after 3 months of treatments. She returned to work in January 2019. Her strength, resilience and remarkable progress through her journey inspires her colleagues to this day.
To schedule an appointment please call Laura at (847) 949-2700, ext. 2002 or visit www.versiti.org. Walk-ins are welcome to schedule an open time slot on the day of the blood drive. All attempting donors will receive a $10 Colonial Cafe gift certificate as a thank you for your dedication to saving lives -- while supplies last.
Last year, the blood drive had more than 80 blood donations, which translates to saving 240 lives. When Meister learned of the outpouring of support during last year’s blood drive, she commented, “I’m amazed by how many will come out and carry your burden with you. It was such a testimonial to our community. It was gratifying to see people take the time and make the sacrifice to come and help.”
